1. Tell us a little about yourself.
I grew up in the South and started my career in Interior Design in the city. I’ve gone back to my roots doing lots of projects that I love on the farm with my craftsman beau. I am a creator and co-organizer for a modern handmade market called Porter Flea. (The next Porter Flea market is coming up on May 31st & June 1st at Cornelia Fort Airpark in East Nashville.) Branding half of the furniture studio HollerDesign run by (my beau) Mr. Matt Alexander. Class and workshop wrangler for The Skillery. And in my spare time dream up fun patterns for my Knitlace brand. I like connecting people. Oh! and polka dots.
2. What inspired you to start your brand?
My Porter Flea team wanted to bring the modern craft movement to Nashville. We knew Nashville had some outstanding artists, designers, and crafters and we wanted to create a show that would shout that from the rooftops.
3. Favorite thing about what you do?
Never a dull day! I’m busy with so many different things that my job is different by the day, and sometimes hour! Oh and again I just love connecting people.
6. So, you’re working with The Skillery, tell us a little about that.
The Skillery is an online marketplace for offline classes and workshops in the Nashville area, led by community experts. We provide an array of administrative services to teachers, including registration, payment processing and marketing. But more than that, we connect local teachers and learners, and shine a spotlight on Nashville’s buzzing culture of makers and doers. From learning to make ice cream with Jeni from Jeni’s to building your own square foot garden – The Skillery is proving unique learning opportunities in Nashville all the time!
7. If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?
Anywhere hand in hand with my bearded fellow is just fine with me.
8. Best travel memory?
Riding the waves on an alligator float being pushed by my Dad.
9. Anything exciting planned for the rest of 2013?
The beau and I are headed to ICFF this month in New York to check out the latest in furniture design. Its a super inspiring experience for us and we take away lots of dreams and goals for Holler Design.
10. What is your favorite piece in the Mexico Collection?
Since I’m a color freak, I just love the Iris Bracelet. Those colors together are just divine and it could dress up any outfit in a second. The cutest addition to any arm party.
